What's in a Business' Brand? IKEA

When it comes to design and branding choices, sometimes simpler is better! Simplicity certainly worked for the Swedish furniture brand IKEA. Their branding has changed very little over the past 40 years, and the company has managed to thrive through it all.

The Perfect Brand Guidelines

Everyone recognizes the IKEA brand and what it represents. However, you may not be familiar with the actual meaning behind the name. The first three letters are taken from the founder's name: Ingvar Kamprad, Elmtaryd. The last letter comes from the village of Agunnaryd, where he was raised.

Their  simple blue and yellow color scheme also comes from simple origins and continues to be effective. The colors are shared with the national flag of Sweden, the brand's home country.  Paired together, they offer feelings of excitement, trust, optimism and happiness.

IKEA has continued to thrive due to the consistent experience it offers to customers. Regardless of which country you live in or whether you prefer to shop in person or online, IKEA attempts to provide the same experience they did back when the brand was founded 70 years ago.

Above all, IKEA's success is a great reminder that with conscious design choices and a clear vision, long-term success can be sustained.
